    Arma 2

Arma 2 is a recent addition to the games we play it is a first person tactical shooter. It is a very involved game and very realistic. Its a game that does take skill and control to play. If you go in shooting chances are you'll get cut to pieces, its a much better game when played tactically and stealthy. Playing as a sniper gives you great achievements however it has its downside cause as soon as you are spotted,, the enemy comes after you and is very good at trying to flank you. In this game there is also tanks, cars and helicopters to use but be warned they get used by the enemy as well. There is a lot of modifications for it that improve basic game play. It makes the impressive game play even better. Just a quick search online will point you in the direction of the modifications. I have added about 20 modifications to Arma 2 to improve the basics and all work to make the game much more realistic to play. Making maps is also fun as there is the ability to make every group of enemy's random and have them patrol in random directions. I have made a few maps myself and they seem to work pretty well again I will be spending more time making maps.

    Rfactor

rFactor has to be the best car racing simulation out there. It has all the great features of a quick race mode, combined with a proper race weekend section. There is lots of different custom tracks and cars to download, with such variety that us as a team have barely scratched the surface of the custom extras. You are even able to monitor your race settings and then get a graphic interface of them to see where you are going wrong. Each car on each track can be modified, you can alter most settings in the cars to set them up for your driving style. You can also alter how the AI plays by altering aggression and intelligence. The amount of different tracks you can play means this game has a long life time of gameplay let alone the fact you can alter the number of laps so giving you a choice of quick sprint to long cruise! If you are into racing games then this is the game for you. Combined this game with a proper force feedback steering wheel and you will be in heaven!
  13. Sins of a Solar Empire is a third person space aged strategy game there are 3 races to choose from and a varied amount of ships for each to use. You are expected to colonise new planets to gain more resources to be able to conquer the whole of the map. Maps vary in size from really small to massive. We had one game that lasted for almost 80 game hours! There are 3 expansion packs for this game and both bring new features for the game. If you like large space battles then this is the game for you. The 3 expansion packs bring the game to life by adding star-bases to the game an diplomacy, this is great for my style of playing as the star-bases allow me to do my standard take and hold tactics. I have been making some of my own maps for this and find them great to play.
  14. Rainbow Six. What a game started in 1998 and has finished with Vegas 2 in 2008 a game spanning a decade! This is a first person tactical shooter one of the first games that actually made you think about tactics. You have to play this game to get a proper feel for it. I have played it for years and count myself somewhat good at the game. I end up these days playing Vegas 2 more then anything else as the AI in it is very good at its job. Myself and HornedRat have played the game many times often playing maps 3-4 times a night, as a result of this we play it less often now as it got boring. I take the role of Close Fire Support, often opting to carry a Light Machine Gun for brute suppression fire-power backed up by a Sub-machine gun for room to room encounters. HornedRat is the sniper in the group either using a Sniper rifle or a Scoped Assault rifle, he is also the expert at grenade throwing! His choice of backup weapon always depends on his first weapon so its either an assault rifle or an sub machine gun. If you are into first person shooters then this is a game you must own! Even if its only the last 2 games you buy Vegas and Vegas 2!
  15. Guild Wars Nightfall is a first person sword and sorcery style role playing game. With this you have to create a character and do level based maps, but with this game as its also online it has the ability to have immense levels and lots of different areas to explore and play through. To play however requires an account and signing into their servers all the time. Every area you go to requires a download of data to enable you to play. As you can imagine this slows the switch between areas down slightly not to mention depending on your ISP could put you over your monthly bandwidth limit. This put us off slightly as we used to get drop outs and ended up on different servers even though we was doing the same area and quest. Its been a while since we played it so they might have sorted the server issues out and I have seen some more GuildWars games out now, they might very well have sorted the problems out. HornedRat and myself had a go at playing this for a few months and even got as far as creating our own guild inside the game. Hence where the 'Nifty Ones Guild' comes from as this was what we called ourselves in the game. In a change of pace here I went on the offensive with a mean broody fighter style character, more involved in getting in close with big hand weapons to hammer on the opponents. While HornedRat showed his softer (yer right!) style playing as a ranger/monk providing cover fire/sniping shots to bring the enemy's down as I closed with them or just to distract them! He also provided healing spells and basic magic!

    Waromen

A hugely popular and successful on-line game hosted and run by Everbong, it is a very active game that you can play every 15 minutes, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. It is a round based game and each round is roughly 4 weeks to a month long. The game is very active at times and does require a good deal of time, however played right you can alter this and prepare to defend. You get a choice of 4 races and each race has a bonus, this makes choosing who to play important compared to how much time you can devote to the game. At first it might seem daunting but after a few weeks you will get into it and begin to feel confident. There are always players there to help you learn(look for the {trainer} marker in blue to see those that teach and help). I myself play this game although it has dropped off the last year as I have been busy in real life, but I have picked it back up and going to give it another bash. As at times it can be great to get involved in one of the 'guilds' there and play as a part of a larger army adhering to your commanders wishes. This then brings another element into the game, as proper coordination can bring victory or defeat! Each round is different so you never have two rounds the same, its very much a game to play anywhere as its browser based rather then computer based. There is also a single player version of Waromen that again is based on four races but in this version you can't play in a 'guild' is all about you! Here's links to the game Waromen Solo Game Play Waromen Please take the time to register there and play a few rounds as I'm sure you will become addicted to playing it if you give it a chance!
  17. Battlefield 2 is a first person shooting game. There's not alot of finesse involved in this game, It involves 2 teams and a shoot-out to see who can score the most kills. You have a choice of player types and weapons. During the game the idea is to either complete kill the other team or to take control of flags, once you control all the flags you need to go on the defensive to stop the other team gaining them. There are even vehicles to use, tanks/planes/cars/choppers. Its a very fast paced game and taking your eyes from the target can get you quickly killed, luckily you respawn until your team is out of spawn points/life. This is a game where you can't really take a single role and make it work you have to adapt yourself to the situation and play as what role you need to to get the job sorted. There is alot of add-ons for this game and maps. Some of which make the game better others just don't really add anything. Try some of them out you'll be surprised. one thing I will say is make sure you dominate the air. A chopper can take lots of people out and has often turned a game for us from a bad defeat into a marginal win!
  18. NeverWinter Nights is an older game, released in 2002, that is a character based role Playing Game, while not having fancy graphics it does have a decent story line and lots of playability. That is based on Third Edition Dungeons & Dragons and Forgotten Realms rules! The game begins with you creating your own character. This is easy to do and depending on the style of gameplay you like will alter the choices you make. Myself I took a 'in your face' fighter role, getting in quick to hammer at my foes with a sword! After you have created you character and gone through the short 'tutorial' you are in the city of 'NeverWinter' and have to stop a plague. This is accomplished by collecting four monsters while avoiding a cult trying to assassinate you. You have the help of numerous Non Player Characters as you progress through the game. As the cure is being made it is stolen leading you on another mission to capture the cure back. After this has been done its time to find out who has been trying to kill you, so its off after the cult to track them down and put a stop to it. There's a twist in it here but I'm not going to mention it as it would spoil things! As you arrive in a city called 'Luskan' you hear rumours the enemy is hunting for the 'words of power'. So its off to track down the 'Words of Power' to stop the cult from getting them. Once this is done, you travel inside the source stone do battle with an enemy and return to the world as the world inside the stone implodes. Yes its a fun game but at times it can be long and drawn out, while at others there's so much going on you don't know which way to turn or hit. As its so cheap nowadays its worth getting if you are into this sort of game as its a good basis to learn from!
